ES Windows Sliding & Patio Doors: The Fort Lauderdale Owner’s Guide
We stock and install ES Windows-compatible sliding and patio door parts across Fort Lauderdale, with most roller, lock, and handle replacements running $165 – $385 installed and full door replacements typically landing between $2,400 and $5,800 depending on size and glass package. We keep the most common ES Windows rollers, tracks, and hardware on our trucks, so many Fort Lauderdale homeowners get a working door the same day we arrive. The giveaway is usually a door that suddenly drags, jumps off track, or won’t latch, and in Salt Spray Zone homes near Las Olas or the Intracoastal, aluminum roller housings corrode faster than anywhere inland.
Which ES Windows Models This Applies To
ES Windows makes sliding glass doors in a few series that we see regularly in Fort Lauderdale homes: the ES-900 and ES-800 series are the workhorses, with the ES-900 being the heavier aluminum frame common in mid-rise condos along Galt Ocean Mile and the ES-800 showing up more in single-family homes in Victoria Park and Rio Vista. The compatibility gotcha with ES Windows is roller sizing: early ES-900 doors used a 1-1/4 inch diameter concave roller, while later production switched to a 1-1/2 inch tandem roller, and mixing them up means the door won’t seat in the track. The OEM part is worth buying for rollers and locks because ES Windows uses a proprietary lock body spacing that most generic replacements don’t match cleanly. For handles and pull rails, we’re honest about it being a choice: OEM when the finish or lock integration matters, a quality aftermarket equivalent when it doesn’t.
Signs Your ES Windows Sliding & Patio Doors Is Failing
- The door drags or takes real effort to move. This is almost always flattened rollers or debris-packed bottom track. On ES doors, the nylon tire around the steel bearing wears down first, and salt air in Fort Lauderdale accelerates the steel corrosion underneath.
- The door lifts off the track or wobbles side to side. Either the roller adjustment screw has backed out over years of use, or a roller has cracked and collapsed. This is the point where continuing to force the door risks damaging the track extrusion.
- The handle is loose, or the lock won’t engage the strike. ES interior locks use a die-cast hook mechanism that fatigue-fractures at the pivot. The lock will still turn, but the hook doesn’t reach, and that’s a security issue, not a cosmetic one.
- You hear metal-on-metal grinding. That’s the roller bearing failing and the wheel now scraping the aluminum track. Every cycle gouges the track a little more, which is why catching it early keeps a $40 roller from becoming a $300 track replacement.
- Condensation or fogging between the glass panels. The insulated glass unit’s seal has failed. On an ES door, that means an IGU replacement rather than a track or roller fix, and we’ll talk honestly about whether a whole-door replacement makes more sense given the age of the existing frame.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
In Fort Lauderdale, here’s what our ES Windows part replacements run, installed:
- Door rollers (pair): $165 – $240 installed, including removing the panel, replacing both rollers (even if only one failed), cleaning the track, and re-adjusting the door height.
- Handle and lock set: $185 – $295 for OEM or matching-quality replacement, installed and re-keyed if needed.
- Bottom track replacement (full length): $350 – $650 depending on door width and track extrusion availability.
- Insulated glass unit replacement: $450 – $900 for a standard sliding panel IGU, more for Low-E or impact-rated glass.
- Complete sliding door replacement: $2,400 – $5,800 for a standard ES Windows-equivalent door, installed, with impact-rated options on the upper end.
That’s parts, labor, haul-off of the old parts, and a written guarantee on the repair. If our repair fails, the second visit is free. Every quote comes to you in writing before we touch anything, so there’s no surprise on the back end. Call (754) 354-3671 for an exact price on your specific door.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely do two things yourself: clean the bottom track with a stiff brush and vacuum, and check whether the adjustment screws at the bottom of the door panel will raise or lower it. Beyond that, I’d tap the brakes. Pulling a sliding door panel means lifting 80 to 180 pounds of glass and aluminum out of a track, and a dropped panel sends tempered glass across the room and risks serious injury. Losing a fingertip to a snapped track or a crushed foot to a falling panel isn’t worth saving a service call. If the track is cracked, the roller housing is corroded, or the lock is broken, call us at (754) 354-3671 and let our crew handle it. The estimate is free, and we’ll tell you if it’s a simple fix or a full replacement, with no pressure either way.
FAQs
In Fort Lauderdale’s salt air, expect 7 – 12 years from original ES Windows rollers, and closer to 5 – 8 years on waterfront properties where the aluminum housings corrode faster. If your door is older than that and starting to drag, the rollers are at end of life, not just dirty. Call (754) 354-3671 and we’ll quote the replacement.
Rollers are replaced, not repaired. The internal bearing and nylon tire are not serviceable as individual parts, and a worn roller has already scored the track to some degree. Replacing the pair is cheaper than letting it grind a groove into the aluminum track. Estimates are free at (754) 354-3671.
Most roller, handle, and lock replacements take 45 minutes to 2 hours. Full track replacements or insulated glass unit swaps run 2 – 4 hours. We’ll give you a time window when you speak with us, and you’ll know the price before we start.
We stock the most common ES Windows rollers, lock sets, and handles on our trucks and in our Fort Lauderdale shop. Less common parts like full track extrusions or custom IGUs may take 3 – 10 business days to source. We also stock parts for PGT, CGI, and CWS sliding doors, so if you have a second door from another line, we’ll likely have that covered too.
